Their work is crucial to the safety and correct treatment of the patient and is important, too, to the safety of the health care personnel handling the equipment. There are actually four levels of biomedical equipment technicians. A BMET I (or Jr. BMET) works at the entry level, performing skilled work of routine difficulty under close supervision. He or she primarily carries out preventative maintenance, repair, and safety testing and has the minimum of education and experience required. A BMET II (or BMET) has at least several years of related education or experience and works independently in repair and maintenance programs.
